The short version of how HearthenVale works. For the details, follow the links.

The game
What is HearthenVale?
A cozy, persistent economy sim. Every player picks a profession, makes goods and trades with everyone else in one shared world. No single player can make everything, so the world thrives when players depend on each other.
When can I play?
HearthenVale is in development. There's no release date yet; when there is, it'll be here first.
What can I play it on?
iPhone and iPad, running iOS 17 or later. A web version is planned after launch, and possibly Android later. Everyone will share the same world.
Does it cost anything?
It's free to download. Purchases are cosmetic only, plus an optional monthly Hearth Pass. Nothing sold affects production, prices or trade. Fair Play →
How much time does it take?
A typical visit is 5 to 15 minutes: collect what finished, queue new work, check your market orders, and spend your earnings. Production keeps running while you're away, and mastering a trade takes months.
Professions
How many professions are there?
Nine at launch in four tiers: Farmer, Woodcutter and Miner (Gatherers); Blacksmith, Builder and Tailor (Crafters); Merchant and Stylist (Service); and Soldier (Protector). Baker, Fisher, Alchemist and Shipwright are planned for later. Professions →
Can I have more than one?
You pick a primary profession and an optional secondary. Each levels on its own from 1 to 50, but a secondary stops at level 10, so you'll still trade for high-tier goods.
Can I change profession later?
Any time. But the profession you drop forgets everything: its level, Proficiency, gathering mastery and discovered recipes. Your character level is never lost.
Why can only Woodcutters chop trees?
Gathering is exclusive to each trade, so everyone needs everyone. Wild berries are the one thing anyone can forage.
The world
Can I play solo?
Yes. You don't have to join a Politheum, and you can play fully in the capitals. You'll still trade with other players, because that's how you get what your trade can't make.
Do I have to fight?
No. Only Soldiers fight. Everyone else can be slowed by raiders on the frontier but is never knocked out, and the three capitals are always completely safe. The Frontier →
Can I lose my things?
Your home, plot, banked goods and the clothes you wear are never lost. The only goods at risk are what you carry on the frontier, and the harder your party fights back, the more it keeps: at most half, and nothing at all if you drive the attackers off.
What happens while I'm offline?
Your workplaces keep producing, your market orders and stall keep selling, and your home stays in the world. Your character simply isn't visible until you return.
How do I get land?
Every new player gets a Settler's Grant plot, free for 30 days, on the outskirts of the capital they choose. You can also rent a capital plot, stake a frontier homestead, buy a plot in a player city, or found a city with your Politheum. Politheums & Land →
